This week-I'm two wheeling!

It was time. Last week the training wheels came off, unbeknownst to J, but we didn't get the opportunity to ride.

Tuesday, it was a lovely afternoon, and we took the boy out in the street for some hesitant two wheeling.

Rock Climbing Class @ FW CC

This is J rock climbing.

Rope Ladder

Several posts have been made about the rope ladder, for Little D and on the family blog, but J gets his spot in the light as well. Honestly, this experience has been really good for him, he enjoys it immensely, and can really climb the sucker.

These pictures were taken before we moved the rope ladder to its current location. This was really from J's first climbing experience with the thing. Barefoot and with floppy ladder, he jumped right on and started up.

This pic is part of the getting down experience. I have to say, that in the configuration above, especially with barefeet, this wasn't easy. The middle part wasn't tied together and the ladder was really loose. J had a bit of an issue with his feet getting caught.

Of course, it left me with visions of my boys hanging from the ropes by their feet or worse, but hey, the chain link fence with loose chicken wire and rebar along the top seems a bit more threatening.

So we will get some more pics of J climbing the ladder now that we have moved it. He scales right up to the deck, and I know it won't be long before he is hopping over the rail. Go J!

Sleep Over

J had his first real sleepover just recently. We have had family come and stay before, as well as out of town friends, but that was different. This time it was a buddy and they got to have the entire downstairs to themselves (pretty much) for the night.

J's buddy is a bit older as you can see, just turned 13, but they get along well. They talk about all sorts of stuff and play video games together. This day, however, being Summer and beautiful outside, found them in the play yard, pool and trampoline.

As you can see, it gets a bit crowded in the pool with 3 of them in there. Not much swimming going on, but lots of horseplay and splashing to be had.

J loves it when he has guests on the trampoline, especially if they are big enough to really bounce him when they jump.

Having an older kid in the pool is good for the both of them as well. As you can see, they get a good idea of what swimming (and getting under the water with your head) is all about.

J tells me that it was an awesome experience and it has only encouraged him to ask for more folks to stay over at the house. I couldn't be happier about it.

Lost Front Tooth

Back a while ago, J lost his first tooth, but.....not on his own. We had to go to the dentist and have it pulled. Unhappy pappy grumbled about how he could have pulled it himself and what a waste of money it was, etc.

So the second front tooth came loose, with determination that it would come out on its own. We encouraged the wiggling and eating of crunchy thing for a while, and then, at some point, it was barely hanging in there. J was quite concerned, not really wanting to lose the thing, but we talked him into letting dad mess with it in the bathroom. A flick or two, back and forth with the finger and BAM, right down his throat.
He caught it though, and coughed it back out, ending up looking like this:

So we get J prepped to put the tooth under his pillow for the tooth fairy. That really didn't work out so well. He was terribly bothered by the idea that the tooth fairy would take his tooth and that he wouldn't be able to save it. So, we made a deal and let him keep the tooth (he didn't care about the money part), and low and behold, there was money left under the pillow anyway.
So a toothless boy for a time (with more loosies on the way).

Math and Science

I learned a lot about Math and Science. In math I learned fractions and hundreds. In science I learned about plant life and about cayons. I am almost done with science.

mom typed rules...J typed entry.
Rules: Write a 4 to 6 sentence composition about a topic of your choice.

Second Grade

My year in second grade was nice. Each morning I had Math, Science, and Reading. In the afternoon, I had Social Studies. One thing I didn't like about second grade was Social Studies because I had never done Social Studies before. The best thing was Science because I knew it very well. Second grade was fun.

My Hero

My hero is my dad. My dad fixes computers for a living. The reason my dad it my hero is because I love him and he is a good person. My dad will always be a person I admire because he has a good heart.

My Super Power

If I could have a super power, I would have super speed. With this super power, I could help people and animals. I would help people by stopping tornadoes; I would do this by running the opposite direction it is blowing. It would feel really cool to have a super power.

My Dinosaur

If I had a dinosaur, I would name him Axeosaur. I would feed him plants and wood chips. Axeosaur would sleep outside in our fort. It would be fun and cool to have a dinosaur as a pet.

My Day (April 23)

I was playing at home with my mom and brother, D. I played with Legos. The Lego guys were acting really weird. My Nana came over and we built a train track. We bumpered some of the tracks since we couldn't finish them. I really, really liked today.

The Call of The Wild

The book I read was The Call of The Wild by Oliver Ho (retold; original story by Jack London). The main charaters in this book were Buck, John Thorton, Francoes, Perrault, Scottist Driver and Mail Carrier. This book is about a country dog, Buck, learing to survive in the wild. He had to bury himself in the snow to keep warm. Buck learned to be aggressive. I would recommend reading this book because it tells a really nice story about men and their crew of dogs.

A Batview

A Batview

My mom has thought bats are cool since she was ten years old. She first noticed bats at a wash in Tucson AZ. The bats were all in a tree at a time; “it was like the tree came to life when they all flew away” she says. My mom doesn’t have a favorite bat because she doesn’t know enough about them.

The Great Chase

The Great Chase

Once upon a time there was a white tiger being chased by bears for trying to eat their baby. The tiger wasn’t watching where he was going and he ran right into a monkey panting a tree orange and black. Then the white tiger had orange and black stripes. The bears didn’t see the tiger and ran right by. The tiger couldn’t get the paint off. That’s why some tigers have orange and black stripes.
